Every year, during both the fall and spring seasons, TV viewers may experience some degree of interference on some channels due to “sun outages.” You can read through the following FAQs for more information on Sun Outages.
Sun Outage FAQs
What are Sun Outages?
Sun Outages are brief interruptions in your TV signal that is caused by solar satellite interference. Solar satellite interference occurs when the sun is aligned with a satellite. When that happens solar radiation (an energy that the sun is emitting) interferes with the satellite’s signal. This interference will result in a brief interruption to the TV signal that is being transmitted by that satellite.
When do Sun Outages Occur?
Sun Outages occur in February/March and September/October of every year, and last about a week.
How long do Sun Outages last?
Sun Outages, when they occur, typically last only a few minutes per day.
What will happen to my TV service when a Sun Outage occurs?
During a sun outage, you may experience some brief interruptions to some of your TV channels that may affect the picture and sound quality. The picture may pixelate slightly or freeze, and there may be some audio distortions for a brief period of time. There is a chance that the picture and sound may completely go out for a few minutes.
What will happen other services I subscribe to through my TV service provider?
Sun outages only affect TV service. They do not affect Internet or phone services.
If my TV service goes out, how can I tell it’s due to a Sun Outage and not an issue with my TV service.
Sun Outages in the spring will only occur during the day between the hours of 11:30 AM and 6:00 PM CST. Sun outages in the fall will only occur during the day between the hours of 12:00 PM noon and 9 PM CST. And when the Sun Outages occur, they should only last a few minutes, ranging from 5 to 45 minutes.
What should I do during a sun outage?
Vexus apologizes for any disruption to your service or inconvenience the sun outage may cause. However, please know that solar satellite interference is not unique to Vexus and is out of our control. If a Sun Outage occurs, please be patient and your service will return momentarily.
